Tony Westlake picked up his third PBA title by defeating Norm Duke, 235-225, in the title match of the $125,000 PBA Oregon Open at Hollywood Bowl in Portland. For Westlake, who was bowling from the top-seeded position for the first time in his six-year career, the victory meant $18,000 and his first crown since the summer of 1989 in El Paso, Texas. Westlake opened the championship game with four strikes before sparing in the fifth, while Duke could muster just two strikes and fell behind by 30 pins. Duke, Albuquerque, N.M., then struck in his sixth through eighth, but Westlake equaled that feat to keep his lead. After Duke spared in the ninth, Westlake did the same and knocked down six pins in the 10th to secure the title. In the first game of the ABC-televised championship round, 1990 PBA Rookie of the Year Brad Kiszewski, defeated Joe Salvemini of Oklahoma City, Okla., 189-173. Kiszewski, Buffalo, N.Y., then fell to Seattle's Hugh Miller, 248-164. In the semifinal, Duke beat Miller, 232-215.
