Williams, Mohr Take Commanding PBA50/60 Points Leads Into Season’s Homestretch Beginning with River City Extreme Open July 9-12

MONTICELLO, Minn.  -- As the 2019 PBA50 Tour season travels back to the Midwest, Walter Ray Williams Jr. takes his more than 9,000-point lead in the PBA50 Player of the Year points race into the PBA50 River City Extreme Open presented by Hammer July 9-12 in Monticello, Minnesota.

After a rollercoaster ride in qualifying, and a big surge in match play, the two-time PBA50 Player of the Year salvaged a sixth-place finish in the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open to lead with 24,800 points, 9,400 points more than USBC Senior Masters winner Amleto Monacelli who sits in second with 15,405 points and Norm Duke in third place with 13,950.

Walter Ray Williams action shot IIIn pursuit of his fourth win of the season and a 15th career PBA50 Tour title that will give him sole possession of the titles record on the tour for players 50 and over, Williams started the season with three consecutive wins – including the PBA50 National  Championship – followed by a seventh-, eighth- and a ninth-place finish in the USBC Senior Masters leading up to the Senior U.S. Open.

Reigning PBA50 Player of the Year and River City Extreme Open defending champion Michael Haugen Jr. became last season’s only multiple winner when he defeated Bob Learn Jr., 247-246, in the title match of the 2018 event for his second PBA50 Tour title of the year and third of his career. Haugen is currently fifth with 10,735 points 615 behind Parker Bohn III in fourth with 11,350.

Leading the 2019 PBA50 Rookie of the Year points race is Hall of Famer Danny Wiseman in 13th place overall with 5,975 points. Wiseman has a best finish of second this season which came in the PBA50 Mooresville Open. Following Wiseman in the ROY race is Eugene McCune in 28th with 3,750 points. McCune will have a good chance to gain substantial ground as Wiseman’s schedule is expected to be limited for the rest of the season. While a distant 52nd overall with 2,020 points, PBA Hall of Famer Steve Hoskins also has time to make a run for the Rookie of the Year title.

Mohr.Ron_2017PBA50(1107)PBA Hall of Famer Ron Mohr continues his bid for a fourth consecutive PBA60 Player of the Year crown leading players 60 and over with 9,925 points, 3,345 points ahead of Mike Dias who won the USBC Super Senior Classic in June. The 63-year-old Mohr, who also owns two PBA50 Player of the Year crowns, has a best finish of second this season which came in the PBA50 Hamilton Lanes & Entertainment Center Open.

The River City Extreme Open begins with qualifying on Wednesday, July 10 with squads at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. CT, followed by second-round qualifying Thursday, July 11 also at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Match play begins Friday, July 12 with squads at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. which will determine the top five players for the stepladder finals scheduled for 5 p.m. A practice session will be conducted from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9 with a pro-am squad scheduled for 6 p.m.

After the River City Extreme Open, the PBA50 Tour stretch run continues with the PBA50 South Shore Open presented by Ebonite at Olympia Lanes in Hammond, Indiana, July 15-18; the PBA50 David Small’s Championship Lanes Classic presented by Roto Grip in Anderson, Indiana, July, 20-23, and the PBA50 Spectrum Lanes Open presented by DV8 in Wyoming, Michigan, July 25-28. The PBA50 season concludes with the PBA50 David Small’s Jax 60 Lanes Classic presented by Track in Jackson, Michigan, July 30-Aug. 2.

Two PBA60 events will close the year: the PBA60 David Small’s Jax 60 National Championship in Memory of Mel Wolfe, Aug. 3-5 in Jackson and the PBA60 Dick Weber Championship presented by DeHayes Insurance Group & 900 Global at Pro Bowl West in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Aug. 7-9.
