Howard Makes Comeback "Big"
Little George Howard returned to the tournament wars after a long layoff and captured the $3,000 first prize in the $30,000 U.S. Coast Guard Open at Grand Haven, Mich.
The 106-pounder, who hadn't competed regularly for two years, won 12 of his 16 matches in the finals to total 9621. This was 167 pins better than that scored by Nelson Burton Jr.
This was Howard's fourth PBA crown. His last previous win was at St. Jose, Calif., in 1963.
