Rhoda Plugs Champagne Tap
The Press and touring pros missed out on another champagne party when Harry Smith lost the final game and the Louisville Open to Big Gene Rhoda.
Smith, who started his "champagne kick", a la golf's Tony Lema, in the previous tourney, went into the last game of the tournament with a 55-pin edge. Rhoda struck out in the last two frames to post a 233-216 victory. With the 50-pin bonus, the 220-pound Rhoda emerged a 37-pin victor.
It was Rhoda's second PBA tournament win. Earlier in the year he knocked off the Seattle championship.
