Clemens, the 20th person to be elected in the Meritorious Service Category, was the only Financial Director the PBA had until his retirement in 1996. He designed various programs involving health, disability, insurance and investing. He also oversaw scholarship funds and their distribution and handled millions of numbers needed to conduct some 200 tournaments every year. He also went above and beyond in helping bowlers with financial advice and always spending extra hours keeping up with tax and legal technicalities of bowling activities around the world. "It's been a great experience for me and this is unexpected but deeply appreciated by me and my family," said Clemens during his induction speech. Clemens received received a special surprise accolade when a day in his honor was declared in his hometown of Fairlawn, Ohio, the longtime home of the Tournament of Champions.
