Undefeated in his two championship round appearances spanning the last four PBA tournaments and seven nationally televised matches, George Branham III powered his way to the AC-Delco Classic crown and $27,000 first prize. Branham bounced tournament leader Steve Wunderlich, 225-182, to notch his second title to go along with the Brunswick Memorial World Open crown collected late in 1986. Branham amazingly vaulted from ninth place to move among the championship finalists as fifth qualifier following Friday night's position round game. He displayed that same steely determination in averaging better than 242 for his four games en route to his AC-Deco win. In the opening game, Branham felt out his line to the pocket and defeated 47-year-old Jimmie Certain, Huntsville, Ala., 217-199. Mike Aulby, Indianapolis, a former AC-Delco champ here at Union Square Lanes, then entered the scene but couldn't match Branham's strike barrage and bowed, 268-257. Norm Duke, Fort Worth, Texas, was no match for Branham on this day either as Branham unleashed 11 strikes to advance to the championship game with a 279-200 win.
