The top-seeded doubles team of Joe Berardi and Teata Semiz thwarted a brilliant rush by Steve Wunderlich and Billy Walden to capture the $130,000 Columbia Senior/Touring Pro Doubles. The all-Eastern duo of Berardi-Semiz collected a 224-204 victory worth $25,000 over Midwesterners Wunderlich-Walden. But it wasn't easy. Wunderlich-Walden waded through three tough opponents before losing the championship game. In the early matches, the St. Louis area "Wunderteam" ousted veteran Bob Strampe and Dave Husted, 234-169, and then toppled Hall of Famer Carmen Salvino and Jimmie Pritts Jr., 247-233. Next up was a pair of lefthanders, Bill Allen, a Hall of Famer with 13 titles and John Gant, performing in front of the hometown crowd from Greater Cincinnati. Wunderlich-Walden prevailed, 233-212, but had their charge halted by Berardi-Semiz in the title game.
