Don Genalo capitalized from his top-seeded position for the fifth time in six opportunities in capturing the $125,000 Molson Golden Bowling Challenge. Genalo topped Tom Milton, 235-214, to collect his sixth PBA title as well as the $18,000 first prize. Genalo started strong in the championship game with four strikes In his first five frames, while Milton fell slightly behind, sparing in the second and third frames after an opening strike. Milton, whose last victory came against Genalo In the 1983 Denver Open, had the opportunity to shut out his opponent with ninth and 10th frame strikes, but could muster only the first, spare and seven count. Genalo then needed only to mark to cement his second victory of 1986, coupled with an earlier win at Milwaukee on the Winter Tour. The championship round began with PBA Tour rookies Purvis Granger and Rod Pasteur squaring off and Granger prevailing, 219-201.
