Dave Husted's Summer Tour performance on the PBA Tour resulted in his second victory in four weeks as he captured the $140,000 Miller Lite Challenge. He toppled leading qualifier Bobby Jacks, 225-210, in the championship game to pick up a check for $23,000 and run his earnings for the previous month to more than $50,000. It was the first three games Husted won that left fans buzzing. In quick order he disposed of: Dale Eagle, 255-223; then Sam Maccarone, 247-233; and then topped that off with a scintillating 290-188 victory over Purvis Granger before a national television audience. Husted then took on Jacks, who was looking for his first PBA victory since winning three titles in 1966. Needing 259 to break the championship round mark of 1,050, set by Nelson Burton Jr. in 1984, Husted fell short of the record, but claimed his fifth PBA title.
