O'Drobinak Obliterates Giants

Jon O'Drobinak, a baby-faced rookie professional bowler, scored one of the most stunning upsets in PBA history in winning the $150,000 Quaker State Open at the Forum Bowling Lanes.

After ousting a fellow non-champion, Jim Harvey, in the first game of the nationally televised finals, O'Drobinak upset, in order, Wayne Webb, Marshall Holman and Mark Roth, three of the most feared and respected stars in bowling, to capture the title, $27,000 first prize and a spot in the $250,000 Firestone Tournament of ChampionsThe lanky Chicago-area bowler opened with a confident 241-191 victory over Harvey and then found himself arraigned against Webb, who owned 16 of the 67 PBA Tour titles amassed by himself, Holman and Roth. The score of the game was 218-177. Next it was Holman who fell one strike short and bowed to O'Drobinak, 210-207The score of the title game against Roth was 202-190, completing O'Drobinak's inspirational drive to victory.
