Tom Baker ended a three-year PBA victory drought by sneaking out a 183-181 win against Storm DeVincent to win the $150,000 Budweiser Classic. It was Baker's first win since the 1982 Grand Prix In Paris and good for the $27,000 first prize. DeVincent averaged 240 in snowballing three previous wins into the championship game, but missed the 3-6-10 spare in the 10th frame against Baker, which cost him his first PBA triumph. In opening the championship round, DeVincent defeated three-time PBA champion Tom Milton, 210-190, before ousting Amleto Monacelli, 277-233. Defending Budweiser Classic champion Guppy Troup was the next to bow, 234-219, despite out-striking DeVincent, eight to seven, with no open frames.
