Billy Young Jr. was so shaken he could hardly speak after he won the $125,000 Molson Golden Bowling Challenge by upending Bobby Jacks, 236-226. For Jacks, the loss was especially frustrating after the veteran lefty had struggled through two previous winning games to make it to the championship finale. Jacks needed a strike to close the gap on Young on that last ball, but he left a 4-7 pin leave and it was all over. Jacks waited one game until Jim Winklepleck ousted Mike Edwards, 212-169, and Jacks then came from behind to knock out Winklepleck, 199-182, with four closing strikes. Jim Tilton, who opened the tournament with 23 strikes and an 854 series, then swung into action and lost to Jacks, 220-186, setting the stage for the title game.
