Wayne Webb didn't predict he would win the $130,000 Fair Lanes Open, but he ended up in the winner's circle nonetheless for the second straight week with 196-150 decision over Mark Williams. Williams, made things a little easier for Webb by suffering through open frames four straight times on the right-hand lane of the championship pair. Going into the 10th frame, Webb, who won this tournament in 1981, needed only five pins to clinch his 16th PBA title. He struck out. Williams had eliminated Bob Handley, 196-186, and Henry Gonzalez, 194-180, on the way to his third claiming of back-to-back victories. Against Handley, Williams thrilled the packed house at Fair Lanes Woodlawn by converting the 2-4-8-10 split in the 10th frame to all but clinch the match. In the opening game, Handley topped Charlie Tapp, 215-190.
