David Ozio captured his first PBA victory in the $150,000 AMF Angle Open against hometown favorite Steve Giljum, 235-229. Ozio feared one other person in the five-man nationally televised finals . . . Dick Weber. The 55-year-old ageless wonder qualified third for the finals, along with Pete McCordic and George Pappas. Pappas eliminated McCordic, 235-200, and Weber, obviously a huge crowd favorite and performing in the lanes he owned until recently, disposed of Pappas, 216-191. Weber then ran into a red-hot Giljum, who buried Weber under eight opening strikes and coasted in to the championship game, 255-216. Ozio notched the first six strikes and then a split in the seventh frame kept the door slightly ajar for Giljum, who pulled to within 10 pins, but Ozio closed with a spare, strike and spare for the championship.
