On the strength of 496 for two games, Guppy Troup entered the winner's circle for the seventh time in his PBA career In the Inaugural $150,000 Budweiser Classic at Columbus, Ohio. Troup, who had appeared on two previous Fall Tour telecasts, was at the top of his game, defeating Wayne Webb, 260-249, by striking out from the fifth frame in an exciting semifinal game. In the title contest, top-seeded Norm Duke stayed with Troup early, but a 4-6-10 split in the fifth frame, and a 4-9 in the ninth, proved to be Duke's undoing as he absorbed a 236-181 loss. Ron Bell began the stepladder finals with a 246-194 win against veteran George Pappas before Webb, gunning for his third title of the year, sent Bell to the sidelines, 218-205.
