Pete Weber, down by 25 pins in the seventh frame, drilled home six strikes to capture his third PBA title in the $125,000 Aqua Fest/Mr. Gatti's Open. Top-seeded Marshall Holman could have locked up the title with a double in the 10th frame, but after striking he left a 10-pin. Weber responded with a title-winning double worth $18,000 and a re-entry into the Firestone Tournament of Champions in 1985. Before proceeding to the title game, Weber downed Pete McCordic, 245-191, and survived a nail-biter against Don Genalo, 191-181, when Genalo failed to convert a 1-2-4-10 "washout" in the 10th frame. It was the third time Holman has been top-seeded in the annual Austin tournament.
