Don Genalo, the man known as "Big Foot" by his fellow pros, stepped on veteran Bobby Knipple, 217-192, to gain his third PBA victory and its accompanying $17,000 first prize in the $115,000 Seattle Open. Knipple, a 19-year-old pro, kept pace with Genalo through the first four frames, standing three pins down until Genalo tossed strikes in frames five through seven. Knipple stayed clean but could not muster a double, enabling Genalo to clinch the title with a ninth-frame strike. In the opening match, Rickie Sajek took over the 1984 earnings lead despite losing to Tom Baker, 182-179. Baker then lost to defending champion Charlie Tapp, 226-203, before Tapp fell to Knipple, 215-182. Genalo paced the field by 118 pins going into the championship round.
