Touring Players Championship

$100,000 TOURING PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
422 Limerick Bowl, Limerick, Pa., Oct 5-10, 1983

Cook Tops Touring Pros

Towering Steve Cook, the PBA Tour's largest competitor (6-foot-7, 265 lbs.), proved to be the best in the $100,000 Touring Players Championship when he defeated Steve Wunderlich in the championship game, 229-191.

Cook was leading qualifier in the championship round and he was forced to wait on the sidelines until Wunderlich, Mark Fahy, and last year's winner and runnerup at 422 Limerick Bowl, Mark Roth, and Tom Milton, battled it out.

Milton drew first blood, eliminating Roth, 231-216, with a closing "must" double in the ninth and 10th frames. Milton then ran into Wunderlich, and fell, 223-194, with Wunderlich then rolling over Fahy, 240-186.

The title game in this Inaugural event on the PBA Tour was a tense battle until late in the game. Cook started with a double, opened in the third frame, got three more strikes and a split, and then closed with four booming strikes to clinch the title and $13,000 check.
