The final score was Dennis Jacques-157, Sam Zurich-156. But that score doesn't even begin to tell the story of the bizarre championship finals of the $110,000 Molson Bowling Challenge at Windsor, Canada's Rose Bowl Lanes. Mark Baker and Steve Wunderlich started the first game with five open frames while Baker finally doubled for a 206-190 triumph. Baker then ran into Zurich, who managed to roll to a fairly easy, 210-176, victory as Baker suffered through three more open frames. Zurich's next opponent, John Forst, ran into almost the same amount of trouble as he tossed four open frames and suffered a 190-168 defeat, setting the stage for the title game between Zurich and Jacques. When Zurich struck and spared In the 10th frame to finish with a 156, Jacques needed a spare and eight count. He spared and left the 3-6-10, and then on the fill ball the three and six stood and the 10-pin tottered and fell, giving Jacques his title and $15,000 check.
