Randy Lightfoot, top-seeded by virtue of a 230 average and an 18-6 match play record, turned back Paul McCordic, 243-216, to win the $95,000 Denver Open. The 24-year-old Lightfoot, whose only other PBA title came more than four years earlier in Miami, Fla., struck on five of his first six shots in the final contest. But McCordic, the left-handed twin brother of Touring Pro Pete McCordic, did not give in easily, putting together a string of strikes at the end to force Lightfoot into a 10th frame mark for the $12,000 top prize. Lightfoot's pressure shot was flawless for a strike. McCordic, competing in just his third tournament of the year, made $7,000 for second.
