Cook On Scoring Spree

Steve Cook charged to his second PBA title of the year and second Kessler-sponsored tournament victory by averaging 251 for four matches in the championship round of the $110,000 Kessler Open in San Jose.

Cook barely got by the first match, defeating rival southpaw Earl Anthony, 239-234, when Anthony left a 6-pin on a game-deciding, 10th-frame shot. Next, the 6'6", Cook outscored rookie Venezuela native, Amleto Monacelli, 258-235.

Second-seeded Dave Husted offered little resistance to the Cook title drive, bowing 260-179. In the final match, Cook prevailed over No. 1 Roger Haskell 250-196. Cook totaled 1,007 for the four matches in recording his sixth PBA title.
