Bob Handley, aided by a 10th-frame gutter ball by challenging Storm DeVincent, regained his spot in the Firestone Tournament of Champions by winning the $100,000 Greater Miami Sunshine Open. Handley and DeVincent, a local favorite from Ft. Lauderdale, were within one pin going into the final frame at Don Carter's Kendall Lanes, when DeVincent had the misfortune of grazing his ankle on the downswing, deflecting the ball to the right of his far outside line and into the channel. He recovered to convert the spare, however, forcing Handley to mark. Handley clinched his second PBA title with a final-frame strike to win, 213-193.
