Trask Finally A Champion

Art Trask, four times a runnerup in 10 years of competition, broke through for his first PBA championship with a 239-200 title-game win over Mal Acosta in the $125,000 Quaker State Open in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Second-seeded going into the TV finals, Trask eliminated Mark Roth, 250-203, in the semifinal game and finished the final match with seven strikes to claim the $20,000 top prize at Forum Bowl.

Rick Vittone had opened the stepladder finals with a 248-214 win against Guppy Troup before losing in a two-frame rolloff to Roth, who won the annual Quaker State event in 1978.
