$110,000 BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL WORLD OPEN
Brunswick Northern Bowl, Glendale Heights, Illinois, Nov 15-21, 1981

Martin Frames Season

Steve Martin, who won the first tournament of year, finished the season the way he started by triumphing in the $125,000 Brunswick Memorial World Open in Chicago.

Martin's 243-191 win over top-seeded Wayne Webb avenged both a championship-game loss in the 1979 Brunswick event and a 232-231 loss to Webb in the final game of the Fair Lanes Open earlier in the year.

In the title game, Martin zeroed in for five straight strikes beginning in the second frame and was never seriously threatened by Webb, the top seed for the second week in a row. Martin's toughest match was against Bo Bowden in the semi-final game when he struck out in the I 0th frame for a 225-223 decision. For his fifth victory Martin earned $15,000 while Webb's second prize of $8,000 made him the fifth player to earn over $100,000 in 1981.
