Mark Roth joined elite company as he moved into a tie for second on the PBA's all-time titles fist with a 206-188 victory over Boysie Huber to win the $100,000 Columbia 300 Open in Cleveland. Roth's 26th PBA win put him alongside Don Johnson and Dick Weber who claim the same number of crowns, 10 less than Earl Anthony who tops the list. It was the fourth time in his career Roth has won back-to-back championships. Like his previous week's "Dutch 200" victory in Lansing, Roth had trouble putting strikes together in the championship match but held a slim lead throughout. He finally closed out Huber, looking for his first PBA title, with three strikes in the 10th frame. Roth earned $13,000 for the win and moved over $100,000 in yearly earnings for the fifth straight season.
