Towering Steve Cook won his second PBA title of the year and fourth overall when he turned aside top-seeded Earl Anthony in the $110,000 Kessler Classic in Indianapolis. Cook backed up an opening-frame spare with five strikes in a row to take a 42-pin lead in the championship game. Anthony countered with but one double and absorbed a 234-184 loss to finish second for the fifth time this year. To get to the final game, second-seeded Cook survived a close battle with 19-year-old Pete Weber who was the tournament leader through the fist three rounds. Weber held a slim advantage going into the eighth frame of the semi-final contest when he left an 8-10 split which proved instrumental in Cook achieving a 212-202 win.
