Dave Beckmann opened the championship game with six strikes and held on as Tommy Hudson made a late charge to score a hometown victory in .the $75,000 Seattle Open. Beckmann, a 24-year-old right-hander in his third full season on tour, clinched the $8,000 first prize by a score of 234-220 over top-seeded Hudson who was competing in the championship match for the third time in four tournaments. After opening up a 44-pin lead, Beckmann watched, as Hudson, seeking his 10th PBA win, put together two three-baggers to make the match close but ran out of frames. Prior to the final match, Beckmann had defeated Wayne Webb, 213-189.
