Veteran Palmer Fallgren snapped a rive-year victory drought and collected his largest career payoff when he defeated four opponents to win $20,000 and the inaugural True Value Open championship in Miami. Fallgren began his big conquest by routing George Pappas with a 256 game before edging past Les Zikes, when Zikes, needing a strike to win, left a solid eight-pin. Henry Gonzalez went down next and top-seeded Marshall Holman succumbed, 211-196, when his bid for a game-winning 10th-frame double was foiled by a 3-6 leave. The win at Don Carter's Kendall Lanes regained for the 29-year-old Fallgren an invitation to the Firestone Tournament of Champions since his eligibility had expired in 1978.
