Mark Roth opened the championship game with three strikes and was never headed as he crushed challenging Dennis Lane, 257-195, to successfully defend his City of Roses title and become the only bowler in the 14-year history of the Portland event to win the tournament twice. Not only did the 28-year-old two-time PBA Player of the Year join select company with his 20th career victory, but he also became the fifth professional bowler to surpass the half million dollar standard. The tournament saw the initiation of the PBA's new alternate pair Television format, with each of the four final matches between the top five bowlers, alternating between two pairs of lanes. Jay Robinson finished third, Tom Baker, fourth, and Bill Spigner, fifth.
