Showboat Invitational

$125,000 SHOWBOAT INVITATIONAL
Showboat Lanes, Las Vegas, Jan 8-13, 1979

Emmett "Shutes" Down First Title

Emmett Shutes surprised the 396-man Showboat Invitational field by coming through with his first PBA victory in the $125,000 event at Showboat Lanes.

Shutes, a Penn State grad from State College, Pa., qualified second for the TV finals and knocked off Earl Anthony by stringing eight strikes in the semi-final game for a 266-180 victory and then bested top-seeded Paul Moser, 238-217, in the championship match.

The $21,000 first prize for Shutes, a 31-year-old three-year PBA veteran, nearly equaled his previous PBA career earnings.
