After four years of part-time effort on the PBA Tour, Guppy Troup, Columbia, S.C., decided to try it full-time. The result was a convincing victory in the $70,000 Kessler Open at Battle Creek, Mich. "I don't know when I've been so happy before," said Troup minutes after he defeated PBA Hall of Famer Dick Weber, St. Louis, 240-204, in the final match to increase his margin to 275 pins. Troup led the inaugural Kessler Open from the second round, and at one time he held a lead of more than 300 pins over the star-studded field. 42-GAME TOTALS | | | Name, City | | Pins | | Avg | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Guppy Troup, Columbia, S.C. | | 9382 | | 223.38 | | 17-7-0 | | 510 | | 9892 | | $8,000 | | 2 | | Dick Weber, St. Louis | | 9227 | | 219.69 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9617 | | 5,000 | | 3 | | Neil Burton, St. Louis | | 9208 | | 219.24 | | 13-10-1 | | 405 | | 9613 | | 4,000 | | 4 | | Joe Nuzzo, Youngstown, Ohio | | 9339 | | 222.36 | | 8-15-1 | | 255 | | 9594 | | 3,500 | | 5 | | Mike Berlin, Muscatine, Iowa | | 9276 | | 220.86 | | 10-14-0 | | 300 | | 9576 | | 3,000 | | 6 | | Dennis Lane, Kingsport, Tenn. | | 9081 | | 216.21 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9561 | | 2,500 | | #7 | | Gary Dickinson, Ft.
