Mark Roth assured himself of the greatest year ever experienced by a professional bowler when he captured the Brunswick Regional Champions Classic in Rochester, N.Y. When Roth took first-place money of $5,000, he put his total at the time to over $118,000. Of perhaps greater significance was the fact that the title was his eighth of the 1978 campaign, and no pro had ever won that many times. Roth's margin of victory over rookie David Ozio was 287 pins. Ozio, disappointed at being denied his first PBA triumph, nevertheless savored the joy and pride in having a perfect game. 42-GAME TOTALS | | | Name, City | | Pins | | Avg | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Mark Roth, Arlington, N.J. | | 9540 | | 227.14 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9990 | | $5,000 | | #2 | | David Ozio, Beaumont, Texas | | 9223 | | 219.50 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9703 | | 3,000 | | 3 | | Steve Cook, Roseville, Cal. | | 9045 | | 215.35 | | 19-5-0 | | 570 | | 9615 | | 2,500 | | 4 | | Roy Buckley, Columbus, Ohio | | 9186 | | 218.71 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9606 | | 2,200 | | 5 | | George Pappas, Charlotte, N.C. | | 9165 | | 218.20 | | 12-12-0 | | 360 | | 9525 | | 2,000 | | 6 | | Allie Clarke, Ravenna, Ohio | | 8990 | | 214.04 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9470 | | 1,800 | | 7 | | Larry Gray, Torrance, Calif. | | 8991 | | 214.07 | | 13-11-0 | | 330 | | 9321 | | 1,600 | | 8 | | Joe Hutchinson, Scranton, Pa. | | 8925 | | 212.50 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9315 | | 1,500 | | 9 | | Dave Davis, Hackensack, N.J. | | 8879 | | 211.40 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9299 | | 1,400 | | 10 | | Gary Dickinson, Ft.
