Can't Keep Up With Jones

Steve Jones staged a gallant stretch run in the final round to capture his second PBA title, the $62,000 Qua Cities Open at Plaza Bowl North in Davenport, Iowa.

Jones, Kerrville, Texas, was fourth with eight games to go, but he started with a three-game total of 790 to wrestthe lead from another hot bowler, Palmer Fallgren.

With two games remaining, Jones slipped to third but got back into first for the position round match with Bill Spigner, whom he defeated 211-177 for the title.

The victory secured his position in the Firestone Tournament of Champions and also earned him a spot in the AMF Grand Prix of Bowling.
