Fred Conner ended Earl Anthony's three-year domination by winning the $60,000 Waukegan Open at Bertrand Lanes. Conner hovered near the lead through most of the tournament, leading after four of the six rounds. When it got down to the crucial final games, only Conner and Paul Moser were in contention for the championship. Conner defeated Moser in the final match to earn his first PBA championship in a six-year career. Anthony, who made this tournament his first since suffering a heart attack in June, finished third. He'd won the last three Waukegan titles. 42-GAME TOTALS | | | Name, City | | Pins | | Avg | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Fred Conner, Mar Vista, Cal. | | 9291 | | 221.2 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9711 | | $6,000 | | 2 | | Paul Moser, Medford, Mass. | | 9119 | | 217.1 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9599 | | 3,500 | | 3 | | Earl Anthony, Tacoma | | 9085 | | 216.3 | | 14-9-1 | | 435 | | 9520 | | 3,000 | | 4 | | Carmen Salvino, Chicago | | 9094 | | 216.5 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9484 | | 2,500 | | 5 | | Steve Westberg, Cot.
