Earl Anthony returned to the PBA Tour after a three-week vacation and devastated two finals opponents for the championship of the $100,000 AMF MagicScore Open, his 29th PBA title. Anthony, seeded second for the TV finals, knocked off Dennis Swayda, 258-211, in the semifinal match and then socked tournament leader Ernie Schlegel, 258-201, for the title. Anthony rolled 19 strikes in 24 frames in his impressive victory. Larry Laub defeated long-time friend and former traveling companion Ron Lisher, 243-226 in the opening match before Swayda moved in to eliminate Laub, 244-200. From there on, it was all Anthony.
