Veteran Roy Buckley proved something to himself after winning the $8,000 first prize in the inaugural $75,000 Muriel Open. Buckley's triumph came at the expense of Jimmy Certain, who went down to a 227-193 defeat in the title game for the fifth runnerup finish of his pro career. "I was beginning to wonder if I could win from the top-seeded position," said a relieved Buckley after thwarting Certain's bid for his first title. "This is the first time I've won from that spot in five tries." Fellow TV finalists Tommy Hudson and Pete Couture were among eight pros who rolled 300 games during the week.
