$100,000 ROLAIDS OPEN

Neff Chews Up Rolaids Foes

Steve Neff bounced back from a nagging inability to convert easy spares to win the $100,000 Rolaids Open. His reward was $14,000.

The fifth-seeded Neff survived five open frames as he defeated Cliff McNealy. Mark Roth, Bill Spigner and finally the top-seeded Tommy Hudson. 215-198, in the championship match.

"I had a lot of open frames and a lot of good luck," Neff said. "It's really unbelieveable that I won."

Fans got their money's worth all week as a dozen 300 games were rolled to break the PBA one tournament record of 11 set in 1971 at South Bend, Ind.
