New Orleans Lions Open

$65,000 NEW ORLEANS LIONS OPEN
Pelican Lanes, Metairie, La., Mar 9-13, 1976

Moore Roars

Louie Moore stalled Don McCune, 218-202, to emerge winner of the $65,000 New Orleans Lions Club Open. For Moore, who has been on the tour barely four years, it was his second win.

Moore started as though he would run McCune off the lanes. He doubled in the first two frames while McCune floundered with small pin counts and a 4-7-9-10 spilt over the first three frames. At that point he trailed Moore by 25 pins.

McCune regained his touch starting with the fourth frame, stringing three strikes. This brought him to within two pins of Moore, who held the lead when he converted the washout in the fifth.

McCune doubled in the eighth and ninth frames to stay close and Moore came right back with a flurry of strikes to close with 218. That left it squarely up to McCune who needed two more strikes to win. Instead, he left a 4-9 split on his first ball and it was all over.
