Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Hall of Famer Carmen Salvino, Chicago, Ill., won his 14th career title by upsetting top-seeded Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash., in the championship game of the $50,000 Home Box Office Open in Pittsburgh. The score of the title game was 236-213, and it marked the second time this year that the veteran Chicagoan has thwarted Anthony in a one-game title bid, the other occasion being the finals of the $100,000 Showboat Invitational at Las Vegas last January. Salvino had to win two games to claim the title. He was second-seeded to Anthony, and they were joined by Roy Buckley, Columbus, Ohio, Bill Spigner, Hamden, Conn., and Mark Roth, Staten Island, N.Y., in the Home Box Office televised finals.
