Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash., overcame a tough and scrambling opponent in the person of Bill Allen, Orlando, Fla., to notch the title in the $60,000 Long Island Open. Anthony topped Allen, 217-195, in the title game after Allen had eliminated three other players in an effort to win his first PBA title since 1968 when he triumphed at Newark, Ohio. Anthony was top-seeded into the number one position, earning it with two big final games Friday night, 278 and 265. Earlier in the week, he was farther back in the field as Don Helling, St. Louis, Allen, and Tony Maresca, Mesa, Ariz., battled for the lead.
