Paul Colwell, Tucson, Ariz., mowed down four opponents to win the $85,000 Copenhagen Open in Cleveland. Three of his four victories in front of a national television audience were among the most pressure-packed and thrilling in the history of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) televised finals. Colwell's victims were Don Johnson, Akron, Ohio, Bobby Fenton, Los Angeles, Calif., Ed DiTolla, Maywood, N.J., and Mark Roth, Staten Island, N.Y. The only easy win was a 224-149 win over Fenton; the others were won by a total of only 22 pins, including a 212-208 win over Roth in the championship game. Colwell was fifth seeded into the championship finals, getting there with three big games of 243-256 and 247 in the last three matches of semi-final play Friday night.
