Buzz Fazio Open

$50,000 BUZZ FAZIO OPEN
Nottke Bowl, Battle Creek, Mich., Oct 18-21, 1974

Johnson Wins Title No. 23

Don Johnson, moved to within one victory of Dick Weber's all-time title record by notching his 23rd career victory here in the $50,00 Buzz Fazio Open at Ken Nottke's Bowl.

The manner in which Johnson won the tournament left large crowds buzzing as he averaged just a fraction less than 240 pins per gam a and tossed a perfect game enroute.

He jumped into an early lead at Battle Creek, leading the 18-game qualifying then toppled pins at a rate that once gave him a lead of more than 300 pins over his nearest rivals during the match game competition.

Johnson received $5,000 and a trophy from veteran Bowling all of Famer Buzz Fazio, for whom the tournament was named. Fazio, recovering from a severe automobile accident last summer, was at the finals as a spectator.
