It was a long time between victories for Nelson Burton Jr., but his first one in two years came in the Hartford suburb of Windsor Locks as he topped Earl Anthony, 236-230, in the final game of the $50,000 Home Box Office Open at Bradley Bowl. The victory, worth $5,000, capped an entirely satisfying week for the St. Louisan, who averaged 233 for the 42-game route. In the championship game, top-seeded Burton maintained a slim margin over Anthony into the final frame and finished with a 236 but he left the door open for Anthony should he get a spare and eight pins on his last ball. But, Anthony left a 4-6-7 split, missed the trio of pins, leaving all three, to fall six pins short.
