Hood's In The Front

Husky Bob Hood, in taking his first title, out-dueled three opponents in Tucson, Ariz., to win the $47,000 Home Box Office Open. The championship game saw Hood upset top-seeded Jim Godman, 245-203.

In the title game, Hood opened with four strikes, and when Godman suffered a 5-7 split in the fourth frame, it gave Hood a margin of more than 40 pins. Five strikes in his last six balls clinched the title.

Earl Anthony, who had won four of the previous six PBA tournaments in which he competed, made the match game finals play and gave Tucson fans a thrill earlier as he notched a 300 game during qualifying play, his second in as many weeks.
