Dick Ritger repeated as champion in the $70,000 Fair Lanes Open by defeating Johnny Petraglia 237-193 in the championship game. Ritger also won the season's opener, the $100,000 Midas Open. Ritger was joined in the finals by Larry Laub, who earlier had won the $70,000 Don Carter Classic and the $60,000 Cleveland Rotary Open this winter; Petraglia, Sam Flanagan and Alex Seymore, Kannapolis N.C. In the payoff game, Petraglia never had a chance. Ritger opened with a strike, then strung four more from the third through the sixth frames, and he had the title and the $7,500 winner's check to match the one he won a year ago.
