McCune Streak Continues
The PBA summer tour was only five weeks old, but Don McCune, Munster, Ind., made like he owned it.
McCune won his third title of the summer (and fifth of the year) in this San Francisco suburb as he triumphed in the $40,000 Redwood City Open at Mel's Bowl.
In this tournament, except for a brief slump during the final eight games, he led practically from start to finish. Two of his tormentors, Dennis Swavda, Phoenix, Ariz., and Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash., caught him during the final session, and each led briefly. But McCune regained the lead in the 41st game, had a seven-pin margin over Anthony going into the position-round game, then clinched the win with a resounding 251-204 thumping of Anthony.
