Larry Laub set a national television scoring record as he won the $50,000 King Louie Open over Max Jensen in Kansas City. Laub won four games with an aggregate score of 1021 pins, including a 238-237 championship win over Jensen, to break the old four-game record of 1004 pins. Only one pin separated the duo through the fifth frame; then Laub went into his patented finish . . . a string of strikes into the ninth frame, and he had to wait until Jensen, a former football player, finished his game. Jensen got five in a row and sat down with a 237. Laub was forced to spare, then strike to win, and that is exactly what he did . . . to win it by one pin. He averaged 231 pins per game during the tournament, which saw Skee Foremsky, Johnny Guenther and Palmer Fallgren record perfect games.
