Gus Lampo made it two victories out of three when he roared to first place in the Mercury Cougar Open in San Jose, Calif. Top seeded going into the finale-worth $10,000 and a new automobile-Lampo didn't let his chances pass him by. The rugged pro came through with a convincing 258-224 win over Don Glover. A hoped-for confrontation in the TV finale between Lampo and his buddy Mike Orlovsky never materialized as Glover dispatched Mike by a 188-172 score, en route to the title game. Lampo then started with a spare, drilled six strikes in a row, and clamed his second PBA crown, even though Glover himself closed with a six-bugger.
