$38,000 LINCOLN OPEN
Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln, Neb., Oct 22-25, 1971
Buckley Beaten By Laub Shot
Aided by a perfect game-one of eight fired during the event-Larry Laub of San Francisco coasted to his secondPBA victory in the $36,000 Lincoln Open at Hollywood Bowl. Laub's 300 effort came in the next-to-last block of match games and it was the springboard he needed for the $4,000 triumph.
Going into the 42nd and final game of the contest, Laub had built up enough pins to make the position clash with Roy Buckley just so much fluff. But, Larry still gave it his all and won that final game by a resounding 258-249 score. For the distance, he averaged over 238, and he had to be good to stave off the rest of the field. The boys were in a high-shooting mood, as witness a pair of perfect games by Mickey Higham, and 300s by Don McCune, Bobby Cooper, Jimmy Carman, John Bennett and Buckley.
