The Johnny Petraglia story continued as the $35,000 Houston-Sertoma Open played at Stadium Bowl. The young pro from Brooklyn, however, came within an eyelash of blowing his fifth championship of the year when a tall southpaw from Houston nearly took the title away. Petraglia went into the position round game with a 103-pin margin over Bob Singleton, a local entry in the event which drew packed houses at all sessions. When Singleton took a 248-184 decision, it meant a 94-pin pickup, bonus points included, reducing Petraglia's margin of victory to a mere nine. The final count was 10,631 to 10,522. . Singleton, trying to become the second local bowler to take a title, led the qualifier with an average of over 268, and for the 42 games in which he competed his average was 240-plus. In the final analysis, it was Petraglia's 19 wins in match play that spelled the difference, for Singleton managed to take five less. | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Johnny Petraglia, Brooklyn, N.Y. | | 9961 | | 19-5-0 | | 570 | | 10531 | | $4,000 | | **2 | | Bob Singleton, Houston, Texas | | 10102 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 10522 | | 2,200 | | 3 | | Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash. | | 9662 | | 17-6-1 | | 625 | | 10187 | | 1,500 | | 4 | | Don Glover, Bakersfield, Calif. | | 9628 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 10048 | | 1,200 | | 5 | | Marty Piraino, Syracuse, N.Y. | | 9647 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9937 | | 1,100 | | 6 | | Mike McGrath, El Cerrito, Calif. | | 9418 | | 16-8-0 | | 480 | | 9898 | | 1,050 | | 7 | | Butch Gearhart, Houston, Texas | | 9490 | | 12-12-0 | | 360 | | 9860 | | 1,000 | | 8 | | Don McCune, Munster, Ind. | | 9420 | | 13-10-1 | | 405 | | 9826 | | 950 | | 9 | | Don Helling, St. Louis, Mo. | | 9418 | | 12-12-0 | | 360 | | 9778 | | 875 | |   | | Ted Malicki, Maple Heights, Ohio | | 9358 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9778 | | 875 | | 11 | | Mike Orlovsky, Endicott, N.Y. | | 9310 | | 16-9-0 | | 450 | | 9760 | | 800 | | #12 | | Skee Foremsky, Houston, Texas | | 9432 | | 9-15-0 | | 270 | | 9702 | | 750 | | 13 | | Bob Hood, Daly City, Calif. | | 9337 | | 11-12-1 | | 345 | | 9682 | | 700 | | 14 | | Bobby Meadows, Houston, Texas | | 9253 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9673 | | 650 | | 15 | | Gary Dickinson, Ft.
